The internet is a wonderful thing - no doubt about it! But it can also be a vehicle for abuse, cyberbullying, identity theft and viruses... amongst other things.

Do you know who you're talking to?
Avoid giving out any personally identifiable information like your name or email address. Don't say anything to anyone online that you wouldn’t say to a complete stranger in real life. It's easy to lie online and there are adults who will purposely try to contact young people through chat rooms, game sites, and forums.

Stay in control:

So stay in control - you don't have to give anyone any information whatsoever. You can remain as anonymous as you like. If you decide to put a picture online, anyone can download it, change it and use it without your knowing. And you may be looking at a false picture of the person you are talking to.
